Starting point
A strong publication profile boasting plentiful, diverse and highly-ranked scientific publications is the backbone of a successful academic career. Yet many academics miss valuable opportunities to be more visible than they are by neglecting to market their work and research output productively.

This practical workshop helps early career academics to strengthen their scientific publication profiles. The participants learn effective short-term measures to improve their work’s online visibility and the advanced basics of scientific self-marketing; as well as medium- and long-term strategies to increase and diversify their scientific output in a targeted way.

The course covers the following aspects, among others:

  • ‘Impact’: Rankings, Citations & Open Access
  • Platform science: Academic.edu, Researchgate, Orchid & Co.
  • How do I reach a crossover readership between specialists and a general audience?
  • The perfect title and abstract
  • The blessing of co-authorship
  • Recycling data and texts – what am I allowed to do with my material?
  • …and more

During the workshop the active participation of the participants is expected and the mutual exchange of experiences is explicitly welcomed. In addition to segments presented by the facilitator, there may be some group work as well as individual tasks to be performed on the participants‘ own laptop.
Max. number of participants: 12. Course language: English.
